An incomplete copper alloy dolphin (hinged) type, of Roman dating (AD 55 to AD 100). Approximately 75% of the brooch is present, consisting of bow, wings and a partial catch plate. The rest of the brooch is missing, presumed lost in antiquity. The bow is D-shaped, with an angled head. The wings are circular in shape. The reverse of the wing have been decorated with vertical grooves, giving the impression of a coiled spring. The bow is undecorated. The brooch is circular in plan with a frame that is, barring decorative feature, D-shaped in cross section with a flat reverse and convex upper surface.
