The obverse has been counterstruck with the word 'OSBORN' Scott (1975) has identified the counter striking as that of an Advertising piece for a firm known in the local area as OSBORN (#122.152). Post Medieval coin: A complete milled copper alloy 'cartwheel' penny of George III (1760-1820), probably minted in 1797. The date of minting is uncertain as the reverse has been polished for reuse as a love token / birth memento. The reverse has been inscribed with an italic inscription: I N Mullins Born 4th May 1811. The reuse of coins as commemorative tokens, either as love tokens or in this case to note a memorable event (i.e. a birth) was common place in Britain during 18th and 19th Centuries AD.
