A complete cast silver finger ring with intaglio, of Roman datin (2nd to 3rd Centuries AD).
The finger ring, sub-oval in plan, is a small example of Henig Type II. It has an oval hoop of D-shaped cross-section and smooth rounded shoulders, with an intaglio recessed in the centre of the flat bezel. The intaglio, a tiny oval carnelian, is set with its upper flat face a little proud of the bezel. One end of the gem is damaged, making it harder to identify the subject of the engraved image, which appears to show a two-tiered device flanked by ?cornucopiae or similar.
