A Republican silver denarius issued by L. Hostilius Saserna in 48 BC (Reece period 1). L. HOSTILIVS SASERNA reverse type depicting Victory advancing right with winged cauduceus, palm branches and trophy. Mint of Rome. RRC p. 463, no. 448/1a.
This coin has numerous countermarks. On the obverse, there is a cresental countermark on the head of the female figure; the number LXXI on the neck; and a triangular countermark in the right field. On the reverse, there appears to be a further crescental countermark.
