Eleven (11) irregular fragments of iron and copper metal working waste (slag) or fuel ash, of Iron Age to Late Medieval dating (800 BC to AD 1600). All three fragments are light for their size, which would suggest that minimal metal is present within the matrix. All have a honeycomb structure, formed of solidified air bubbles. The top surface is smooth and domed, with a couple of uneven projections. The lower surface is flat. It measures 20.45mm in length, 21.34mm wide and 6.27mm thick. It weighs 13.1grams. The object could be a piece of casting waste, but there are traces of silvering on a couple of areas on both surfaces. The patina is similar to that found on early Roman coins, but this object is too thick to be a coin.
