A complete plano convex or 'slug' knife, of Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age dating (3300 BC to 1200 BC) The knife has been made from a secondary flake of dark grey, semi translucent flint. The lower face (ventral) is smooth, with no ripples. The upper face (dorsal) exhibits retouch along both edges (long, sub-parallel, semi-abrupt). A flat ridge is present down the central of the upper face. It has a D shaped cross section It measures 54.8 mm in length, 18.0 mm wide and 6.8 mm thick. It weighs 8.1 g.

Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: NEOLITHIC

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A tertiary debitage flake with retouch around the edges, to form an ovate scraper (tool), of Late Neolithic date (2500 BC - 1600 BC). It is sub triangular in plan, and semi-circular in cross section. It consists of a tertiary debitage flake. Along the lower edges, there are signs of regular controlled retouch, indicating reuse as a scraper (tool). The bulb of percussion has been lost, but the point is still presnet, suggesting that it was struck at an angle. Hinge fractures are present at the base, suggesting a low quality flint was used with several natural flaws in the matrix.…

Two (2) secondary debitage flakes and seven (7) tertiary debitage flakes, probably dating from the Late Neolithic to the Early Bronze Age (2900 BC - 1800 BC). The flakes vary in size and are all irregular in plan and profile. There is no evidence of reworking or secondary flaking present. They are the residue left over from tool production and direct evidence of flint working either on the site or in the locality. All the flakes demonstrate signs of abrasion, with uncontrolled flint scars present, from plough roll whilst in the plough soil. The secondary debitage flakes to…

It consists of a tertiary debitage flake. Along the lower edges, there are signs of regular controlled retouch, indicating reuse as a scraper (tool). Other than the retouch, there is no signs of working such as a bulb of percussion or conchoidal ripples. It has been made out of a honey coloured flint, with an opaque surface patination. This patination occurs through being…

A fragment of a polished stone axe which appears to have been reused as a pestle. The axe had an oval section, 52.6 x 32.6mm, one end of which shows a hackly fracture. The other ends shows the faceted wear typical of a stone pestle or hammer-stone. This has been locally damaged with the loss of a large chip. It has been made from a fine grained rock, grains of quartz being visible in a black matrix. It measures 61.89mm in length, 53.79mm wide and 32.89mm thick. It weighs 171.4 grams. Due to the functional nature of this artefact, it is hard to accurately date it. As it has bee…

One tertiary waste flake / debitage of Neolithic date (3500 to 2100 BC). The flint is a light grey colour and has been burnt. It is irregular in plan. The dorsal (upper) face exhibits a series of ridges. The ventral (lower) face exhibits conchoidal ripples and a bulb of percussion as evidence of working. There are uncontrolled flint scars present on both the dorsal (upper) and ventral (lower) faces which are the result of post depositional damage due to either movement in the soil or plough roll. The flake measures 42.56mm length, 36.89mm width, 11.96mm thick and weighs 15.6 grams.

One secondary waste flake / debitage of Neolithic date (3500 to 2100 BC). The flint is a mid brown colour and is irregular in plan. Less than 25% of the dorsal (upper) face is covered with cortex (outer rind), indicating it is a secondary debitage flake. The dorsal (upper) face exhibits a series of ridges, and small controlled flint scars along the edges, indicating retouch. The ventral (lower) face exhibits conchoidal ripples as evidence of working. The flake measures 34.65mm length, 22.93mm width,5.68mm thick and weighs 3.4 grams.
