Object type: JEWELLERY FITTING
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Worcestershire

~~A gold composite jewellery fitting. The back plate is formed by an oval sheet with a twisted rope like border. Three circular sectioned wire loops are present on either side. These have been soldered to a collar made from a strip of gold, set at right angles, running around the inside of the rope border. This collar would have secured the original gem in place. The gem is now missing. This item shares similarities with items of Roman and Early Medieval period, for example: IOW-05E330 (2014 T586), PAS-D3A974 (2009 T103) and SWYOR-4637C5 (2010 T573). However the curators at the British…

A complete hand made twisted gold wire, probable finger ring, of uncertain dating. The probable finger ring has been made from two lengths of gold wire twisted together. The ends have been solded together. Due to post depositional pressure, the finger ring is no longer circular, but more ovoid (egg) shaped. The finger ring measures 27.72 mm in length, 9.08 mm wide and 1.27 mm thick. It weighs 0.5 g. The finger ring is a mid yellow colour, with a shiny surface. It is probable that this artefact is a finger ring, although it is very thin for a finger ring, it may have been part …

A thin gold finger ring, no hall marks or other decoration. Dimensions: Weight: 0.626 g Width: 0.79 mm Diameter: 17.7 mm. Discussion: The object is similar in style to LVPL-F848BA, WMID-E6F361, WMID-E6E061 and ESS-F1E6C3. In those cases because the finger ring has no features that would enable a secure date, there is not enough evidence to date this ring to pre-1719. Conclusion: Therefore, owing to its similarity to other rings recorded on the PAS database and the information provided by Judy Rudoe the object cannot be dated at more than 300 years old and as such…

Description: A plain gold finger ring with an inscription on the interior surface. The inscription reads: MEMOR ☆ FID ☆ AMICI T*C . Dimensions: Width: 4.9 mm Thickness: 1.5 mm Internal diameter: 17.4 mm External diameter: 20.3 mm Weight: 6.0 g Discussion: Plain finger rings, probably used as a wedding ring, have been in use since the 16th Century. The inscription of ‘MEMOR FID AMICI T C’ written in capital letters is consistent with 16th to 17th Century AD dating. ESS-745A21 (2011T529) bears a similar inscription, SIS MEMOR A MEL (Remembering of m…
