A worked stone hub probably from a toy wheel, probably of Post Medieval to Modern dating (16th to 19th Centuries AD).
The hub is sub circular in plan, and sub rectangular in cross section. It has been made from a fine grained mica rich sandstone. It has a central drilled perforation (hole) through the centre of the object, with an internal diameter of 6.19mm. There are a total of eight drilled impressions, regularly spaced around the edge of the object. It has been suggested that these would have been the sockets for the spokes of the wheel. The internal diameter of these impres…

The sherd consists of a bodysherd with fine sand and quartz inclusions. The sherd is mostly likely from a local (unsourced) jug fabric type. A cordon is present on the exterior of the sherd, with a wavy (undulating edge). This edge is similar to that known as a 'pie crust' base, found on medieval jugs, dating to between the Mid 12th to Mid 13th Centuries AD. However this sherd does not look like it is from the base of a jug, but more likely, the shou…

A handle of a handmade ceramic vessel.
The sherd is 15.72mm thick and weighs 25.5g. It is 44.69mm long and 36.92mm wide.
The sherd consists of a handle, in a reduced fabric similar that known as Savernake ware, and typically dates from the Mid to Late 1st Century until 2nd Century AD. The handle probably came from a handled pitcher type.
Sherd specific details:
Fabric type: Grog tempered
Sherd type: handle
Wall thickness: 15.72mm
Firing condition: unoxidised exterior, unoxidised core, unoxidised interior.
Hardness: Medium

An incomplete cast copper alloy foot / leg from a copper alloy cooking vessel of Late Medieval to Early Post Medieval dating (1400 - 1700 AD).
The vessel fragment is sub rectangular in plan and sub rectangular in cross section. It consists of a hollow cuboid shape, with an irregular break at the top, and solid foot at the bottom. The base is abraded and rough, probably from being dragged across the hearth floor whilst in use.
It is a dark green colour. Areas of the original surface are covered by a black layer, probably the remnants of soot from being used i…

An incomplete cast copper alloy foot / leg from a copper alloy cooking vessel of Late Medieval to Early Post Medieval dating (1400 - 1700 AD).
The vessel fragment is sub rectangular in plan and square in cross section. It consists of a cuboid body, expanding outwards at the top into a flared, sloping sub rectangular surface. This area is likely to be the remnants of the junction between the leg and the body of the vessel. A small ridge is present at the junction on the exterior surface. An old break is present at the base.
It is a dark green colour. Areas of the …

An incomplete cast copper alloy foot / leg from a copper alloy cooking vessel of Late Medieval to Early Post Medieval dating (1400 - 1700 AD).
The vessel fragment is sub rectangular in plan and sub rectangular in cross section. It consists of a cuboid body, with a ridge running vertically down the interior surface. The foot / leg demonstrates anterior / posterior curvature, with the top and base curving inwards and the mid section curving outwards. The top consists of a sub rectangular surface, with a raised point in the centre, which is probably the remains of a rivet to a…

An incomplete cast copper alloy rim fragment from a copper alloy large posnet or cauldron of Late Medieval to Early Post Medieval dating (1400 - 1700 AD).
The rim fragment is irregular in plan, but rectangular in cross section. The internal surface is smooth, whereas the exterior is rough, with frequent small horizontal lines / ridges present. The rim type is that of a rounded type with an internal lip. The fragment has broken at the shoulder of the vessel, where the rim begins to turn outwards, which is known to be a weak point. A casting seam is present on the internal su…

An incomplete cast copper alloy rim fragment from a copper alloy large posnet or cauldron of Late Medieval to Early Post Medieval dating (1400 - 1700 AD).
The rim fragment is irregular in plan, but rectangular in cross section. The internal surface is smooth, whereas a subtle ridge is present running vertically on the exterior. A short section of rim is present at the top of the fragment and is of the rounded rim type. Not enough is present to estimate the original diameter, however the size and profile would suggest that it came from a large posnet or cauldron (See Fig 1 in But…
