An incomplete chip carved cast copper alloy artefact, of uncertain function and dating, but possibly Early Medieval (AD 400 to AD 700). The fragment is sub rectangular in plan, and rectangular in section. Both ends are incomplete, with an old predepositional break. One long edge is straight with a concave indentation. Looking at the decoration, this indentation was probably located centrally on that side. The opposite edge consists of several semi circular projections. The artefact consists of a sub rectangular piece of sheet copper alloy, with incomplete rivet holes in each corner. A pointed oval piece of sheet silver metal has been attached to the centre of the copper alloy sheet, using three circular sectioned silver rivets. A complete copper alloy terminal or base, of uncertain function, but probably Post Medieval in dating (AD 1500 to AD 1800). The artefact consists of a circular pedestal base with file marks or stratches present. From the base, it widens into a cylindral socket. Four thin circular collars are present at the shoulder between base and socket. The third collar is wider than the others. The top of the socket looks complete, with no post depositional damage. An incomplete copper alloy hook, of uncertain dating, but possibly Roman (AD 43 to AD 410). The artefact is sub rectangular in shape. It has a rectangular cross section. Both ends are rounded, and gradually taper towards a wider middle. One end has two triangular notches, cut on opposing sides, creating a hook like end. It measures 91.6 mm in length, 12.7 mm wide and 7.4 mm thick. It weighs 44.4 g. The artefact is a mid green colour with an even surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in some damage on all sides.
