Object type: TRANSVERSE ARROWHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Shropshire
Workflow stage: Published Find published
An incomplete transverse or chisel arrowhead, of Late Neolithic dating (3300 BC to 2200 BC). The tang and chisel cutting edge are incomplete, but the rest of the artefact is complete. The arrowhead is triangular in shape, with a flat or rectangular cross section. Conchoidal ripples are present on the ventral (lower) face. Retouch is present along both side edges. The retouch on the left hand edge can be classified as: short, sub parallel, abrupt. The retouch on the right hand edge, is located on the ventral side and can be classified as short, sub parallel, low angle. The arrowhead m…

Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Shropshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete knapped discoindal scraper of Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age date, circa 2900-1600BC. The scraper is broadly oval in plan and lentoid in cross section, formed from a tertiary flake. The upper / dorsal face of the scraper exhibits evidence of retouching on all edges. The lower / ventral surface has evidence remains of both the bulb of percussion and striking platform. Length: 57.93mm. Width: 55.22mm. Thickness: 15.48mm. Weight: 59.1g.

Object type: LEAF ARROWHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Shropshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete knapped or flaked flint leaf shaped arrowhead, of Neolithic dating (c. 3500 BC to c. 2500 BC). The arrowhead is approximately 95% complete, missing a small fragment from both the top and the bottom. The arrowhead is leaf shaped in plan, consisting of a pointed oval shape.. It has been made from a piece of tertiary debitage as no cortex (outer rind) is visible on either the dorsal (upper) and ventral (lower) faces. Both dorsal and ventral face exhibit a large amount of controlled flaking, with retouch present along the edges. It measures 37.36 mm in length, 20.79 mm

Object type: DEBITAGE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Shropshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete knapped / flaked secondary debitage flake, of Neolithic dating (3100 BC to 1600 BC). The flake is sub rectangular in plan, and is lentoid in section. Less than 50% of the dorsal (upper) face is covered with cortex (outer rind), indicating it is a secondary debitage flake. The dorsal (upper) face exhibits a series of ridges, and small controlled flint scars along the edges, indicating retouch. The ventral (lower) face exhibits a bulb of percussion, conchoidal ripples and a probable striking platform as evidence of working. The flake measures 29.13 mm in length, 26.97 mm

Object type: BORER
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Shropshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete probable borer of probable Late Neolithic dating (2700 BC to 2200 BC). The probable borer has been made from a dark grey flint, with no patination. Less than 50% of the surface is covered by cortex, indicating that the probable borer has been made from a secondary debitage flake. The probable borer is a pointed oval in shape. The dorsal (upper) surface exhibits controlled working, with minimal retouch (long, scaled, low angle) along the working edge. The ventral (lower) surface exhibits a bulb of percussion and a conchoidal ripples. It measures 46.1 mm in length, 28.1 mm w…

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete flint probable arrowhead of Neolithic-Bronze Age dating (AD 3450-1200 BC). The artefact broadly resembles a Leaf-shaped arrowhead. It is lentoid in plan and bi-convex in section. Both the dorsal and ventral surfaces have covering scaled flaking and all edges, with the exception of the proximal, have fine low angled retouch. The proximal edge has been abruptly blunted, forming a notched aspect at its base. The lithic retains no cortex and is therefore a tertiary flake. The flint is grey in colour. Length: 23.1 mm Width: 20.1 mm Thickness: 4.0 mm W…
