An incomplete chip carved cast copper alloy artefact, of uncertain function and dating, but possibly Early Medieval (AD 400 to AD 700). The fragment is sub rectangular in plan, and rectangular in section. Both ends are incomplete, with an old predepositional break. One long edge is straight with a concave indentation. Looking at the decoration, this indentation was probably located centrally on that side. The opposite edge consists of several semi circular projections. A circular sectioned copper alloy rivet holds both pieces together at one end, located towards the edge of an offset semi circle. Beneath this is another offset semi circle. There is a broad groove around each of the two circular attachment holes, on one face only.
