Three (3) pieces of flint debitage (waste flakes), probably from the manufacture of blades, dating to the Mesolithic Period (8,300 BC to 4,500 BC). The assemblage of flint consists of one (1) piece of primary debitage, one (1) piece of secondary debitage, probably from blade manufacture and a small piece of tertiary debitage which has been reworked into a scraper type tool. The primary debitage flake measures 29.49mm in length, 16.42mm wide and 7.92mm thick. It weighs 3.1 grams. The dorsal (lower) surface exhibits a lateral bulb of percussion. The ventral (upper) surface e…

Three waste flakes / debitage of Mesolithic to Neolithic dating (4000 to 3000 BC). All three are irregular in shape. One consists of primary debitage, with more than 50% of the surface being covered by the cortex (outer rind). The other two are tertiary debitage, with little or no cortex (outer rind) present. Evdience for working consists of a clear bulb of percussion and controlled conchoidal fracturing. There is evidence of uncontrolled fracturing and plough roll, probably from movement in the soil. Together they weigh 13.1 grams. 1. Measures 42.02mm length, 19.26mm width, 10.16mm t…

A core rejuvenation flake struck from poor quality flint of Late Mesolithic to Early Neolithic date (6500 to 2900 BC). It is subrectangular in plan. The ventral (upper) face demonstrates a series of ridges, with a hinge fracture present. The dorsal (lower) face demonstrates a bulb of percussion and striking platform. It has been taken from a core, for the production of blades, as demonstrated from a series of parallel flint scars at the proximal end of the flake. There is evidence of uncontrolled flaking scars along the edge of the flake, which are probably the result of post depositi…

An incomplete struck / knapped flint bladelet, made from secondary debitage, of Mesolithic dating (9, 000 BC to 4, 000 BC). The bladelet is sub triangular in shape, with a triangular cross section. No bulb of percussion is present, as that end of the bladelet has been removed. Conchoidal ripples are present on the ventral surface. A small amount of cortex (outer rind) is present at the tip of the bladelet. Retouch is present on the long edge and can be classified as scaled, irregular. It measures 32.2 mm in length, 18.0 mm wide and 4.1 mm thick. It weighs 1.6 g. The bladelet …

A complete struck / knapped tertiary debitage flake, of probable Late Mesolithic dating (c. 7,000 BC to c. 4,000 BC). The debitage flake has a triangular cross section, and is rectangular in shape. The length/width ration indicates that it is consistent with a blade. Retouch is present along one of the long edges (short, subparallel, low angle). The remains of a bulb of percussion is present at one end. The blade has been made from a light brown flint, with little surface patination. Length: 45.6 mm Width: 13.3 mm Thickness: 4.2 mm Ratio: 3.4:1 Weight: 2.7 g
