A struck flint blade of Early Mesolithic dating (8300 to 6500 BC). The blade is sub triangular in plan. The dorsal (upper) surface exhibits three main flake scars down the length of the blade. A small area of cortex is still present at the base of the blade. There is some deliberate retouch down the the right hand side, with some secondary pressure flaking down the left side. The ventral (lower) surface displays conchoidal rippling down the length of the blade, radiating down from the striking platform at the top. The blade is a mid to dark colour, with little surface pati…

Complete flint blade of probable later Mesolithic date (6500BC - 3500BC). The flint tool is broadly sub-rectangular in plan and cross section. It is much thicker than most blades and the two long edges taper to a blunted point. The bulb of percussion is lost. The two long sides and the lower end of the blade have been retouched / reworked. The retouch is extensive on both long edges where both pressure and direct knapping have been used. The tip is sharpened with retouch in two directions and the butt end is also trimmed with small shallow flakes being removed. A slight notch is …

A broken flint blade, consisting of the lower portion, probably dating from the Late Mesolithic to Early Neolithic periods (6500 - 2900 BC). The blade is sub-rectangular in plan, with a series of ridges on the dorsal (upper) face. A hinge fracture is present towards the tip of the blade, and deliberate retouch (several small parallel flake scars) along the edges is noted. The ventral (lower) face demonstrates some conchoidal ripples. The bulb of percussion is not present, being most likely in the upper part of the blade which is now lost. There are some irregular…

Two incomplete knapped flint blades of Late Mesolithic dating (6500 BC - 4500 BC). The first blade is sub-rectangular in plan, and triangular in cross section and is complete. It consists of a secondary debitage flake, as a small amount of cortex (outer rind) is present on the upper (dorsal) surface. A central ridge runs the length of the upper (dorsal) surface. There are two areas of deliberate (controlled) retouch, along the top of the blade and down the exterior edge at the top of the blade. The lower (ventral) surface is smooth, and does not exhibit any evidence of working s…

An incomplete knapped / flaked flint blade, of probable Late Mesolithic to Early Neolithic dating (6500 - 2900 BC). The blade is sub rectangular in plan, and triangular in cross section. A central ridge is present on the dorsal (upper) face, with signs of retouch along the edges. The ventral (lower) face demonstrates signs of concoidal ripples. The bulb of percussion and striking platforms are missing. The blade is a light grey / dark beige colour, with little surface patination. The blade measures 52.84mm length, 18.04mm width, 4.93mm thick and weighs 4.9 grams.

Two flint blades, probably dating to the later Mesolithic or early Neolithic periods (6500 BC to 2900 BC). Both blades are sub-rectangular in plan, with a triangular cross section. There are multiple small flint facets down the external edges of each probable blade. One of the flint blade is broken. The ventral (lower) surfaces demonstrate a bulb of percussion and conchoidal ripples. The dorsal (upper) surfaces demonstrate a central ridge. The broken flint blade demonstrates signs of retouching down the external edge. There is a small amount of cortex (outer rind) present on each blad…

A flint blade, probably dating to the later Mesolithic or early Neolithic periods (6500 - 2900 BC). The blade is subrectangular in plan, with a series of ridges on the dorsal (upper) face. The ventral (lower) face shows evidence of the bulb of percussion and conchoidal ripples. There is evidence of retouch along both edges of the blade, with multiple small flake scars present. There are some irregular, uncontrolled flake scars, suggesting later post depositional damage such as plough roll or movement in the soil. The blade measures 33.91mm length, 18.16mm width, 3.76mm thick and weigh…

A broken flint blade, probably dating to the later Mesolithic or early Neolithic periods (6500 - 2900 BC). The blade is almost triangular in plan, with a series of ridges on the dorsal (upper) face. The ventral (lower) face shows evidence of the bulb of percussion and part of a striking platform. The blade has been deliberately broken. There is evidence of retouch along the dorsal (upper) left edge, with four small parallel flake scars. There are some irregular, uncontrolled flake scars present, suggesting later post depositional damage such as plough roll or movement in the soil. The…

An incomplete knapped / struck flint blade probably dating to the late Mesolithic period, circa 7000-3500 BC. The blade is broadly triangular in plan and the section is trapezoidal. No cortex is present indicating that this is a tertiary blade. The flint is a slightly mottled light - mid brown colour and is translucent. Two central longitudinal ridges are present on the dorsal side, with some evidence of retouching.Concoidal ripples are present on the ventral surface. Length: 32.05mm. Width: 14.90mm. Thickness: 2.95mm. Weight: 1.7g.
