A complete cast copper alloy zoomorphic D shaped buckle frame, of Early Medieval dating (1000 to 1100 AD). The frame is an irregular oval (D shape) in plan, with the apex of the frame being heavily swollen and tapering to the junction with the axis bar. The axis bas is offset from the plan of the frame. The buckle plate and the pin are missing. From the swollen mid point, the sides taper in both width and thickness to a slight axis bar. Both ends of the buckle frame are decorated with a debased animal (dog or dolphin) head which grip the axis bar between their jaws. The axis b…

A probable incomplete copper alloy buckle plate of Late Early Medieval dating (11th Century AD). It consists of a flat sub circular plate with moulded and openwork decoration, devolved zoomorphic in type. At one end there are two domed areas with a recess between. The reverse of these are concave. The underside is plain. It measures 21.2 mm in length and 12.9 mm in width. It is 3.8 mm thick. It weighs 2.6 g. The probable buckle plate is a mid brown to green colour, with an even surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in …

A near complete copper-alloy and enamelled Early-Medieval buckle, dating from circa AD 700-800. The object is broadly an inverted triangle in plan with an incomplete circular projection at the tip. The main body of the buckle then expands to the opposing upper edge which features two incomplete triangular projections on either corner. A rectangular pin hole is present, measuring 4.7 mm by 2.4 mm. The front face of the object has traces of enamel.
