An incomplete copper alloy hooked tag, of Early Medieval dating (8th to 11th Centuries AD). The plate is triangular or shield-shaped, with squared corners at the top and curved lower edges. There is a broad groove around each of the two circular attachment holes, on one face only. The image appears also to show further very worn decoration on this face, of a line of zig-zag or rocker-arm engraving down the centre between the two holes, and a border of similar engraving around the edge of the plate. The finds recorded consist of 38.85g of gold and 100.90g of silver, including the 79.13g cheek piece, 5004 . It must be recognised that these figures include both earth and garnets and will be reduced by cleaning and that the descriptions of the metal alloys are based only on visual examination, not analysis. Probably 25% of the strap distributor is present, consisting of one of either two or four arms remaining. The rest were probably lost in antiquity. The remaining arm has a lozenge shaped terminal, with a central oval shaped perforation (11.5 mm by 7.7 mm). The terminal has the remnants of knops on three outer points.
