The frame and the pin are both present. The frame has a lentoid cross section and is circular in shape with a recessed area. This recessed area still contains the original pin. A complete copper alloy probable Aesica type brooch, of Roman dating (AD 50 to AD75).
The brooch has a horizontal spring-case adjoining a high arched bow, and a fantail footplate. The void beneath the bow has been filled in with ironpan corrosion products. The spring is secured by an axial rod which runs through a central lug at the rear of the spring case. Around 90% of the brooch is present, with the pin being incomplete. The frame is circular, with moulded decoration giving it the appearance of a single strand of twisted wire. A constriction is present for pin, as the frame is recessed and narrowed. The pin is formed from a piece of sheet copper alloy, wrapped around the narrowed frame.
