An incomplete cast copper alloy sword/dagger quillon of Medieval date, circa AD1200-1300. Approximately 50% survives consisting of one side. The quillon is broken across the perforation for the tang. The surviving end of the aperture is a pointed oval to accommodate the blade. The quillon side is short with a slight downward curve and very slightly expanded terminal. The quillon has a rectangular section. Both ridges have a stamped cross design made up of straight lines with outward facing triangles. The surface has a dark brown even patina. Length: 63.91mm. An incomplete copper alloy sword pommel of Early Medieval dating (probably 10th to 11th Centuries AD). The pommel is of lobed form, with a central lobe which contains a circular shaped aperture through which the tang of the handle would pass. This central lobe is flanked by two lobes, decreasing in size.The outer lobes curve up at the end towards the knop. The pommel is open at the base, and the aperture is lozenge shaped. It has an oval cross section. It is gently curvd in profile. Traces of possible tinned or silvered decoration remain on one face. A rectangular hole, for the tang, is located in the centre of the possible guard. The internal measures of the hole are 8.6 mm long and 3.0 mm wide. It is biconical in shape, with both ends tapering towards the tang. The sides have been fluted, creating a sub square shape. Opposing sides have the same decoration, either one wide ridge or fluting with a groove to either side, or two narrower ridges with grooves to delineate. At the centre is a neat square perforation (7.0 mm by 7.0mm) designed to accomodate the now missing tang of the blade. 18 evenly spaced rounded projections with moulded grooves between them radiate outwards from the central square perforation. An incomplete copper alloy sword pommel of Early Medieval dating (c. AD 410 to c. AD 600). The pommel is a 'cocked hat' type. It is broadly rectangular in plan, with slightly bowed longer edges. The two shorter edges are abraded and each retains the remains of a flat semi-circular lug that enabled the pommel to be secured to the pommel bar by means of rivets. The pommel takes the shape of a squat cylinder with an enlarged mid-section which gives the pommel a bi-conical form with the tops of the cones truncated and a broad flat band, which forms the middle of the pommel, joining the two truncated conical halves. The fragment consists of part of the upper blade, just below the hilt. it is sub rectangular in shape. It has a lentoid cross section and is slightly bent in cross section. The blade edges are incomplete. The blade edges are 2.0 mm thick. It measures 84.9 mm in length, 20.5 mm wide and 4.1 mm thick. It weighs 24.5 g.
