Approximately 75% of the brooch is present, consisting of bow, wings, partial catch plate, hinge and partial pin. The bow is D-shaped, with an angled head. A complete but slightly damaged, silver annual brooch, of Medieval to Post Medieval dating (AD 1300 to AD 1700). The brooch is sub circular in plan. The frame, now misshapen, is convex at the front and concave at the rear, with ridged edges. A circular perforation (hole) has been made in the frame for the pin. The pin is D shaped in cross section, flat on the underside and is attached with an incomplete folded loop. Three small sub rectangular cartouches are present on the upper surface of the pin. An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman brooch, circa AD80-150. The brooch is a bow and fantail type. The head and bow survive. The axis bar, pin and catchplate are missing due to old damage. The head of the brooch has curved ends and the stub of a top loop which is now missing. The bow narrows below the head and then expands into a disc form. The disc has a central raised boss which is surrounded by a circular groove. The surface of the brooch is worn but red enamel survives on the tail of the brooch. Length: 27.60mm. Width: 15.83mm.
