An incomplete cast copper alloy annular brooch, with decorative elements to either side, of Medieval dating (c.1200 - c. 1400 AD). The brooch is sub-circular (slightly oval) in plan, with the frame having a broadly circular cross section. The decoration on the brooch is symmetrical and is the same on both sides (front & back). The decoration is probably floral or zoomorphic in style, but due to the degree of abrasion suffered, it is hard to determine exactly the style of decoration. An incomplete cast copper alloy catch plate fragment from a Trumpet style brooch, of Roman (75 to 175 AD) dating. The catch plate fragment consists of the base of the bow and part of the triangular catch plate behind it. It is rectangular in plan, and irregular in profile. The catch plate is a mid to dark green colour, with an even surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of surface detail. The catch plate measures 25.87mm in length, 6.83mm wide and 10.58mm thick. It weighs 4.2 grams. This brooch fragment was found in …
