One rimsherd of a wheel thrown ceramic vessel, of Early Roman dating (1st to 3rd Centuries AD) The sherd consists of a fragment of a Roman ceramic type, known as Samian ware. Numerous white flecks are present as inclusions in the fabric, suggesting that the production centre was South Gaulish in origin, possibly La Graufesenque. The profile of the rimsherd is consistent with a vessel type known as Dragendorff 27 (Webster, 1996, 38), which equates to a small cup with a double curved wall and a beaded rim.
