An incomplete cast copper alloy rectangular double looped buckle, of probable Late Medieval to Early Post Medieval (c.1400 - c. 1600 AD). Approximately 35% of the buckle frame is present, consisting of one side. The central bar and the opposite loop are missing. The frame fragment is U-shaped in plan, with a flat side and projecting arms top and bottom. In cross section, the frame is rectangular. The frame fragment is sub oval in plan, and rectangular in cross section. The front exhibits moulded floral decoration. This decorative detail consists of an oval panel, with a double line border, and within the panel, a floral device. The back is plain and undecorated. The buckle frame is complete and is broadly sub-rectangular in plan with a slight integrally cast central bar to which a pin would have been attached. The buckle is a sub rectangular shoe or knee buckle, with a drilled frame for a separate spindle. The frame has been decorated with three moulded transverse vertical ridges on either side of the spindle hole. An incised foliate design is present on the outer edge of each loop.
