An incomplete cast copper alloy strainer, of Medieval to Post Medieval dating (1300 to 1600 AD).
The fragment is irregular in plan and profile. It consists of a sheet of copper alloy metal with a series of irregularly spaced holes or perforations punched into it. Six (6) holes are present, all but one are full of soil or metal corrosion products. The empty hole has an internal perforation of 2.26mm.
The fragment is a mid to dark brown colour, with an uneven surface patina. The patina has been removed, probably through handling, on the prominent edges, revealing the bare shiny meta…
