An incomplete cast copper alloy crotal or rumbler bell of 18th Century AD dating, made in the Aldbourne factory by William Gwynn between 1770 and 1813 AD.
Approximately 50% of the bell is present, in two non joining fragments. consisting of the two lower hemispheres. The top of the bell is missing, including the suspension loop. The 'pea' is missing. The lower hemispheres of the bell have been decorated with a 'sunburst' / arched design. A maker's mark of 'WG' with an annulet to either side of each letter above is located in a circular cartouche at the base of the bell.

A complete cast silver spherical 'hawking' bell, of Early Post Medieval dating (15th to 16th Centuries AD).
The bell is formed of upper and lower hemispheres soldered or brazed together, in a raised join around the centre and decorated with a cable ornament. The upper hemisphere is plain with a silver loop soldered to the centre. The loop is formed of a D-shaped loop of silver attached to the bell. An incomplete tinned copper alloy bell, of Post Medieval dating (AD 1500 to AD 1800).
Around 25% of the bell is present, consisting of the part of the top and the base of the suspension loop. The base of the suspension loop is square. The exterior of the bell is curved, with four concentric grooves as decoration. Traces of tinning are present. The interior is plain, with traces of iron corrosion products, indicating that the clapper was probably made from iron.
It measures 14.7 mm in length, 34.7 mm wide and 6.5 mm thick. It weighs 13.6 g.

Around 25% of the bell is present, consisting of part of one half of the bell. The bell fragment is sub half spherical in shape and concave on the reverse. Traces of a moulded design are still present, consisting of three capitals ISW, within a pentagonal cartouche. The horizontal mould casting line is present as a mid rib around the bell.
It measures 46.6 mm in length, 49.6 mm wide and 3.5 mm thick. It weighs 40.1 g.

An incomplete copper alloy bell, of Medieval dating (AD 1100s - AD 1200s)
Around 80% of the bell is present, only the edges of the petals are missing. The body of the bell is sub-spherical with a complete upper hemisphere. The lower hemisphere is an integral part of the whole but is constructed of four separate triangular petals that curve in to create closure on the underside and form the sub-spherical space for the pea. At the top of the bell body there is an integral long shank which terminates in a suspension loop. The internal diameter of the suspension loop is 1.4 mm.

The fragment is irregular in shape, with a rectangular cross section. It has a rim diameter of 19 cm, with about 10% of the diameter present. The interior is smooth, and still displays some lathe or turning marks. The exterior has multiple horizontal lathe or turning marks, and has a couple of flattened areas. These areas are possibly signs that if it was a bell, it was tuned.
