An incomplete struck / hammered copper alloy trader's halfpenny token, of mid 17th Century dating (AD 1660s). The token is circular in plan and has been heavily worn. The obverse has a shield device in the centre, probably containing the Mercer's Arms. The obverse inscription reads * IOHN.PHILLIPS. The reverse reads 'HIS HALF PENNY' in the central circle. The reverse inscription is hard to read but is along the lines of '*IN RA[ ]RIDGE 1665'. A complete copper alloy halfpenny trade token, of 17th Century AD dating (AD 1650 to AD 1680). The token is heavily worn but it is possible to read [ ]COTT[ ]ELL on the obverse and BACONS[ ] on the reverse. This would identify the token as a half penny token issued by an John Cotterell initially of London, but evidence could suggest it coming from Bacon's Inn in Warwickshire (Dickinson (1986), p 101, no 105).
