A complete iron hobnail of probable Roman dating (AD 43 to AD 410). The hobnail has a domed head, and curved shank. The shank tapers to a blunt point. It measures 14.4 mm in length and the head has a diameter of 10.1 mm. It weighs 1.3 g. The hobnail is a mid brown colour, with an even surface patina. The nails compare to other examples on the database including WAW-A15B19 discovered in Warwickshire. Here the record states that "Hob nails were used in Roman footwear (caligulae). An incomplete iron probable plate brooch, of probable Roman dating (2nd Century AD). The probable brooch is circular in shape, with two opposing triangular projections. One of these is flat, the other has a perpendicular (at right angles) projection extending downwards. This is probably the remnants of the catch plate. An 'S' shaped void is present in the centre of the probable plate brooch. No decoration appears to be present. It measures 44.33 mm in length, 23.02 mm wide and 7.88 mm thick. It weighs 3.8 g. An incomplete, hand made, iron axe head, of possible Roman dating (AD 43 to AD 410). It has a curved and flaring blade that has a triangular longitudinal section. The axe expands to the pole / shaft end, which curves downwards, is flat and rectangular in form. The eye through which the axe would have originally have been hafted is oval with an integral projecting lug at the blade end on the upper surface.
