A central circular recess is present in the base of the weight (internal diameter is 14.6 mm). The remains of the copper alloy suspension loop are present at the top of the weight. Six Roman pottery sherds found in the same area. One is a body sherd of samian, decorated with a moulded dog or wolf running right. It is from either a Dragondorf 29 or 37 bowl (weight 3.3 grams). It dates from the first to third century AD. A second sherd of samian is from a mortarium, either a Dragondorf 43 or 45. It dates from the second to third centuries AD and is probably from East Gaul (weight 9.4 grams). The third is a local white ware mortaria, possibly Hartshill / Mancetter (Warwickshire) as that is a major mortarium production site in the region. …
