One rimsherd of a wheel thrown ceramic vessel, of Early Roman dating (1st to 3rd Centuries AD) The sherd consists of a fragment of a Roman ceramic type, known as Samian ware. Numerous white flecks are present as inclusions in the fabric, suggesting that the production centre was South Gaulish in origin, possibly La Graufesenque. The profile of the rimsherd is consistent with a vessel type known as Dragendorff 27 (Webster, 1996, 38), which equates to a small cup with a double curved wall and a beaded rim. The shank demonstrates a minor degree of faceting, suggesting that it was originally wrought from a larger more angular piece. An incomplete silver finger ring, of Roman dating (43 AD to 410 AD). The ring is incomplete, missing an inset intaglio (oval setting), but is otherwise in good condition. The ring is D shaped in section. The ring is no longer circular in plan, being squashed out of shape, and is now oval in shape. It measures 21.29mm tall, 26.98mm wide, 13.18 thick at the bezel, 3.88mm thick at the base of the hoop and the hoop is 3.42mm thick. It weighs 10.7 grams. The ring has been reported as Treasure, being older than 300 years with a precious metal (silver) content of greater than 10%.
