The possible buckle exhibits two biting animal heads, possibly dolphins, grasping a ball or egg shaped object between their jaws. On either side of the animal heads is a circular attachment lug, with a circular hole positioned centrally. The hole has an internal diameter of 1.8 mm. A complete cast copper alloy double loop annular buckle, of Late Post Medieval to Early Modern dating (AD 1650 to c. AD 1750). The buckle frame consists of a sub annular shaped frame, with double semi circular shaped loops and integrally cast narrowed central bar. The buckle plate and pin are missing, presumed lost in antiquity. The buckle frame measures 28.35 mm in length, 22.36 mm wide and 2.08 mm thick. It weighs 2.2 g. The frame is complete but both the pin and the anchor chape are incomplete. The buckle is a sub rectangular shoe or knee buckle, with a drilled frame for a separate spindle. An incomplete cast copper alloy buckle of Post Medieval date, circa AD1550-1650. Approximately 50% of the buckle survives, the pin is present but there is no plate. A double looped oval buckle with a moulded floral decoration on the loop and at either end of the strap bar. Decoration is in the form of acorns. Pin formed from sub-triangular strip of sheet copper alloy wrapped around the bar. The buckle has a dark green colour with an abraded patina. Length: 40.84mm. Width: 54.59mm. Thickness: 4.55mm. Weight: 9.0g. A comparable example recorded in Whitehead:1996, page 66, no 406.
