An incomplete cast copper alloy Colchester derivative (probably Dolphin style) brooch with hinged pin of Roman date (55-100AD). This brooch is unusually heavy and also slightly crude with a very wide and thick head. The wings are complete being solid cast and cylindrical in plan. A small hole passes laterally through the wings (diameter: 3.4mm) and holds a copper alloy axis bar. An incomplete cast copper alloy catch plate fragment from a Trumpet style brooch, of Roman (75 to 175 AD) dating.
The catch plate fragment consists of the base of the bow and part of the triangular catch plate behind it. It is rectangular in plan, and irregular in profile.
The catch plate is a mid to dark green colour, with an even surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of surface detail.
The catch plate measures 25.87mm in length, 6.83mm wide and 10.58mm thick. It weighs 4.2 grams.

Approximately 75% of the brooch is present, with the hinge / spring and pin missing.
The head of the brooch is oval in plan, and tapers into the bow. The reverse of the head is flat, with a integrally cast rectangular lug. This lug is incomplete and has the remains of a pierced hole through it. The pin / spring would have been attached through this hole. There is no evidence of a head loop or plate. A complete wrought or hand forged copper alloy nail, of probable Roman dating (1st to 4th Centuries AD).
The nail consists of a flattened circular head, and a circular sectioned shank. The shank demonstrates a minor degree of faceting, suggesting that it was originally wrought from a larger more angular piece. The tip of the nail is triangular in shape, with the facets extending up the shank of the nail.
The nail is a dark green colour, with an even surface patina. Some minor traces of tinning are present on the surface, suggesting that it might have originally been tinned.
