A fragment of a cast copper alloy, probable funerary / memorial brass of Late Medieval to Early Post Medieval dating (AD 1400 to AD 1700). The fragment is sub rectangular in plan, and rectangular in cross section. One original edge is present and is bevelled. The front of the probable brass has two sets of incised diagonal lines, each set is set at a different angle. The reverse of the brass, exhibits possible silvering or tinning, but this may be where the item has been cleaned. A series of V shaped incisions are positioned along the short straight edge. A fragment of a probable funerary / monumental memorial brass, most likely of Medieval dating (13th to 15th Centuries AD). The fragment appears to be either the elbow or shoulder sections of a suit of armour. The underside of the fragment exhibits grooves, presuming to aid the anchoring into stone for display. The fragment measures 63.16mm in length, 32.53mm wide and 3.24mm thick. It weighs 28.1 grams. Images have been sent to specialists at the Monumental Brass Society to aid identification of the fragment.
