A complete lead papal bull of Pope Alexander IV, whose papacy lasted from c. AD 1254 - 1261. The bull is a cast lead oval seal which has decoration on both faces. The obverse(recta) depicts the faces of St Peter and St Paul below the inscription SPASPE (SPA = Sanctus Paulus, SPE = Sanctus Petrus), with a cross between the faces. St. Paul is seen on the left looking right, with a long pointed beard, and St. Peter is on the right facing left, with a rounded face and beard and hair formed from pellets. An incomplete lead suspension strap fitting of late medieval or early post-medieval date (late 15th to 16th centuries AD). The artefact consists of a forward-facing sub-circular hook, with a lozenge-shaped cross-section, beneath an elongated rectangular suspension loop. The external edges of the hook have been decorated with a series of diagonal ridges. It has been bent slightly out of shape. The suspension fitting measures 44.1 mm in length, 23.7 mm wide and 10.6 mm thick. It weighs 31.0g. The strap fitting is a mid to dark grey with an even surface patina. Abrasion, caused …

A complete lead papal bulla of Pope Boniface IX (c. AD 1350 to AD 1404), dating to the period AD 1389 to AD 1404, when he held the papacy. The obverse bears an inscription of BONI/FATIVS/PP:VIIII, split into three lines, identifying it as a bulla of Pope Boniface IX. The pelleted border is mostly present, although it has been worn away at the top and bottom of the bulla.
