A complete Roman ceramic spindle whorl (AD 43- 409).
This spindle whorl is sub-circular in plan and sub-rectangular in cross-section. A slightly off-centre circular hole has a diameter of c. 4.1mm. Close to the edge, another hole with a similar diameter does not fully penetrate the fabric.
It is made from locally produced Vectis Ware and curvature indicates that it is from the body of a vessel, rather than the base.
The edges are abraded.

A fragment of a post Medieval stoneware rim sherd with a horizontal ridge. Possibly a Raeren-type, or possibly an Aachen-type (1300 - 1800).
A wheel thrown vessel. The fabric is hard fired with a grey core and brownish yellow inner and outer surfaces (Munsell Colour: 10YR 6/6). Above the ridge there is a line of impressed marks forming an abstract design that vaguely resembles letters. The distance between the rounded rim and the rib is 22.2mm.
