The rimsherd is consistent with that of a Samian fabric type, possibly from La Graufesenque in South Gaul, and is consistent with Mid to Late 1st Century dating. The fragment consist of a handle, part of the rim, and part of the body. The handle is 24.9 mm wide, 19.8 mm thick and 93.6 mm in length. The fragment is 94.9 mm long, 116.5 mm wide and 93.6 mm thick. It weighs 153.9 g.
The fabric is a hard oxidised fabric, with a frequent quartz (sand) temper, which is suggestive of a Late Medieval to Early Post Medieval dating (AD 1400 to AD 1600). The style of the handle and the shape of the rim present indicates that the original vessel may have been an urinal or 'piss pot'.
