An incomplete hand made jet mourning brooch, of Victorian dating (c. AD 1880 - c. AD 1910). The brooch is oval in plan. The front exhibits carved decoration. In the centre is a plain upright oval. Surrounding this is a greek key design. The edge of the brooch consists of a twisted rope style border. The back is plain and consists of a copper alloy back plate. The pin is incomplete and consists of part of the hinge and a small amount of the catch plate. A complete cast lead alloy bag seal of Late Post Medieval to Modern dating (18th to 20th Centuries AD). The bag seal is sub circular in plan and consists of two circular discs of lead alloy metal pressed together to secure the string. A diagonal slit is present on one side, suggesting that the string / thread was cut free. One side bears the legend: GRAZIANO PALERMO in two rows of lettering.
