A copper-alloy mount of probable post-Medieval date. The head of the mount is of flat section and has an oval central area. A fan-like projection extends upwards from the top end of this central area, and there is a pointed lobe at the base. On the underside, an integral rivet projects backwards from just below halfway, tapering to a point. It is possible that there was originally a second such rivet, which is now missing. Dimensions: 20.3mm long, 8.3mm wide, 3.9mm thick (1.6mm excluding rivet).

An unfinished silver sexfoil mount, dating to the 17th century. The object is formed of an openwork sexfoil with a central flat circular boss and a sub circular pin rod emanating from one of the foils. Around the boss are radiating engraved lines. There are projections, possibly casting sprues, from two juxtaposed foils. One has broken close to the foil and the other is broken further along. Along the edge of the surviving projection is a similar design to that which runs around the edge of the boss. The design is either intended and the projections are part of the object, or they are…

An incomplete copper alloy sword belt hanger of Post Medieval date (AD 1600-1700). The object consists of a flat plate with a trilobed outer knop that widens towards an old break. The main plate bears moulded foliate (leaves) decoration and bears a circular attachment hole at the terminal end. The lower edge of the mount extends into an integral suspension eye, from which hooked plates would have been hung. The reverse is flat and undecorated. The metal has mid grey-green patina. It is 30.2mm long, 29.9mm wide, 3.1mm thick and weighs 7.47g. A similar example is illustrated in Re…

A cast silver alloy mount or belt fitting. The mount is broadly trapezoidal with the upper edge being shorter and straight with angled corners, widening to a larger lower edge with rounded corners. It is 'D'-shaped in cross section with a flat back and rounded upper face. The upper face has a cast design consisting of three raised hollow collets positioned along the lower edge of the mount. The casting of these collets has been augmented with filing to create radiating lines around their outer edge. The internal depression on each is even but does not seem to be designed to hold a sto…

Fragment of a copper alloy mount, dating to the Post Medieval period. The mount is the lower half of openwork mount, in the form of a fleur de lis. The lis points downwards, with the side points curving into two loops. The mount is broken across the top. This would have formed a 'heart' shape (triangular with rounded ends and a point in the centre of the upper edge), now lost. LEIC-DE4755, on this database, is a more complete example. The remains of an attachment spike on the reverse, now worn to a stub. The mount now measures 20.1mm in length, 17.4mm in width at the loops, 4.3mm …

Copper alloy probable mount, likely dating to the Medieval or early Post Medieval periods. The mount is 'amphora' shaped; triangular with rounded ends, with a rounded knop at the widest end and a horizontal bar at the narrowest end. The plate of the mount is slightly convex. A circular hole is situated in the centre of the rounded knop and at the tapering end, both filled with a separate copper alloy rivet, circular in section. The rivet at the knop is missing the end on the reverse, whilst the rivet at the narrow end has a widened and flattened plate to keep it in place. The mount h…

A complete copper alloy, Post Medieval mount in the form of a rose. The moulded cinquefoil rose on the upper face in has two layers of five petals around a central pellet. The outer edge of the mount is irregular, possibly indicating either that the design was not cut properly or that the mount was originally wider. The outer rows of petals are moulded crescents, while those around the pellet are sub-circular. Two integral, copper alloy spikes are located on the reverse of the mount. Both rivets taper in thickness forming points and are bent at 90 degrees where they would have held i…

Description: Silver rectangular mount, recently broken into two parts across the middle just to one side of the centre. It has symmetrical relief decoration embellished with niello inlay and traces of gilding. Both short ends are raised into D-section mouldings, and the decoration on these are more worn than on the rest of the mount. The mouldings have on them central relief leaf shapes, with rounded top towards the centre and trapezoidal base at the edge of the mount. These are flanked by further, lower shapes with more curvy outlines, again perhaps intended as leaves; at each corner…

An oval area in the centre has been raised, and this pierced in the centre by a small circular hole c. 1mm in diameter. The face with the raised centre has fine concentric lines scratched or engraved around the flange, and an edge which appears slightly thickened in places.
