Five flint pieces of debitage. 1A - A secondary flint flake. Point and bulb of percussion present. Bulb is low but ripple marks on ventral face partially pronounced with more diffuse at middle, probably soft hammer production. Diffuse ripple marks on all facets of dorsal face. Fissures present on dorsal face on two of the facets. Short scaled retouch semi-abrupt at proximal end of straighter edge changing to abrupt at  distal end of edge where it becomes more concave. Weight 8.00g, length 41.7mm, width 30.2mm, thickness 7.5mm. 2A - A secondary flint flake, but probably the …

Twenty pieces of flint, and possibly some chert, debitage. 1A - A re-patinated flint river pebble tertiary blade, the texture of which is less glass-like veering to a texture reminiscent of chert. Bulb of percussion present. Diffuse ripple marks almost not visible indicative of soft hammer production. Probable retouch along proximal end of one edge on dorsal face. Extent short, probably parallel, c.abrupt to semi-abrupt, c. width of each retouch flake c.1.1mm. Probable retouch, creating a shallow notch of 8.7mm on the blade's length axis, on the lower middle edge on the ventral fa…

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A tertiary flint core, Clark (1960) probably a Type C or E, having at least three striking platforms (deduced from the direction of the ripple marks), with flakes removed all of the way around the core from multiple directions. The removal of blades seems to be most likely, at least for that last utilage of this core. Diffuse ripple marks indicative of soft hammer production. While the direction of ripple marks indicates the direction of strike, as the core has been worked from a number of directions no flat platform remains. Scars from the removal of three blade proportione…

A tertiary flint flake or probably a broken blade with transverse break at 90 degrees between ventral and dorsal faces. Probably utilised. Bulb of percussion present. Fissures more noticeable on dorsal face. Diffuse to more noticeable ripple marks probably indicating just soft hammer production (possibly some hard hammer use too - recorder uncertain). Probable retouch along one edge, extent of retouch short, type of retouch scaled, angle of retouch abrupt veering towards low-angle.

A secondary flint flake utilised as a scraper. Incomplete, due to later damage or reworking of the , bulb of percussion present. Transverse break (possibly hinge fracture) across distal end. Initial flake has very diffuse ripple marks on the ventral and dorsal faces indicating soft hammer production. Subsequent removal of flint on both faces all has more defined ripple marks. The recorder is uncertain whether these are defined enough to indicate hard hammer use or just that the soft hammer has had more impact than that initially used to produce the flake. Working on the vent…

Two flint blades. A secondary flint blade, probably utilised as a scraper. Bulb of percussion present on ventral face with diffuse ripple marks indicating soft hammer production. Subtle hinge fracture at distal end. Ventral face has two main facets where blades were previously removed but indication that at least a further two were removed from the first quarter at the proximal end above these which ended in one subtle and one possible hinge fracture. Probable retouch along just over half of the edge opposite that which retains some cortex. Short, probably sub-parallel, semi…

A primary flint core, Clark (1960) Type B1, having two parallel striking platforms, with flakes removed only part of the way around the core. One of the two striking platforms seems to have suffered later damage rather than having the appearance of an intentionally worked surface, direction of flaking indicates evidence of only c. 3 blades removed from that end. Some impurities present in the flint and this might explain some of the smaller blade shaped removals from the smoother platform used last in the core's function for providing blades. Some of the smallest removals…

Retouch at wider flaring distal end from cortexed surface towards ventral face. Mostly parallel retouch, some scaled. Long semi-abrupt. A flint saddle quern or polissoir of Neolithic to Iron Age date (c.4500 BC to AD 43). This quern stone is sub-rectangular in shape with one corner having an approximately 90 degree angle. Depending on its original shape which is uncertain, it might have originally been an irregular shape, it is either complete or possibly mostly complete with some loss from one corner and/or an edge or two. The artefact has a length of 345.0mm. It has a maximum width of 175.0mm, averages a width of 160.0mm and is less than c.100.0mm at its narrowest end. The upper surface has been pecked but then worn…

Object type: AXEHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Cambridgeshire
Workflow stage: Published Find published
An incomplete fragment of polished Neolithic axehead. This axehead has been broken in half along the linial profile so that only one side of the profile survives. The axehead has also been broken transversely to the butt-end and blade-end. This means that the original shape and cross-sectional shape and profile shape of the artefact has been lost. At least one hinge fracture is present. Damage is also present along both edges.

Object type: FLAKED AXEHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Cambridgeshire
Workflow stage: Published Find published
Flaked flint axehead, bifacially worked to produce an asymmetric sub-lozenge shaped cross-section. Significant amounts of recortication has occurred on this secondary peiece of flint, cortex remaining over the majority of the butt end. The presence of one small cavity is visible on the surface. This oval cavity measures 3.2mm x 2.4mm. Some battering on edges and on cutting edge. While this object could be a 'preform' which was intended to be polished the less perscriptive term 'Flaked Axe' is prefered. Probably Neolithic. Weight 191.44g, Length 106.6mm, Width 51.8mm, Thickness 29.6mm.

A relatively large chunk of hard chalk veering on clunch which appears to possibly have been slightly shaped by human hand although this may just be fortuitous. This item weighs in excess of 200g, being too heavy for the precise set of weighing scales. Length is 174.0mm, width is 100.7mm and maximum thickness is 28.1mm. The overall appearance is teardrop shaped however the narrower end has a 'U' shaped chunk missing from the terminal and a spall missing from one surface that is greater than a third of that surface but less than half. A small partially polished stone axehead of Neolithic date. The cross-section is oval. The weight is 172.06g, length is 99.8mm, maximum width is 41.0mm and maximum thickness is 29.6mm. This axehead is a greenstone, similar to Cornish greenstone although full scientific analysis would need to be conducted to determine this conclusively. The stone would have been pecked into shape before a half-hearted attempt to polish the the stone to the finished product. An attempt to polish the axehead can be seen on the tip and on a bit of the sides. This axehead has suffered post-depositional abr…

An arrowhead, formed from tertiary flint, that is either barbed and tanged with the barbs having broken off or was originally a leaf shaped arrowhead that has been reworked to have a tang at the middle of the lower edge. The arrowhead is bifacially worked with covering low angle parallel retouch on the ventral side. The other side has long to invasive low angle scaled retouch. The arefact has recorticated although this has been removed at the base of the arrowhead around the tang. It is uncertain whether this is a result of reworking or later depositional damage. Weight is 1.70g, leng…
