Post Medieval lead alloy shy cock in the shape of a cockerel. The flat figurine and it's thick oval base are a single cast piece. Post Medieval copper alloy 'Pineapple Penny' token of Barbados. On the obverse there is an African's head facing left and wearing a crown with Prince of Wales plumes. On the reverse is a drop shaped pineapple. Post Medieval copper alloy finger ring in the form of a belt, probably a 'fairing' ring. Fairing rings were cheaply made finger rings given as prizes, or sold, at rural fairs, or sold by tinkers etc. Many are found at sites traditionally associated with fairs. Some of the bands decoration has been lost to corrosion. When new, fairing rings would have been polished up and made to appear golden in colour. They vary greatly in design. Some copy older traditional designs, other decorative motifs seem to occur only on low cost copper alloy rings. Interestingly, a number of the forms…

Post Medieval to Modern copper alloy probable handle or spout in the form of an Early Medieval style crocodile or dragon head. It originally had jewelled or glass or enamel eyes. The fineness of the raised decoration suggests that the head may originally have been enamelled. Possibly the handle to a walking stick or vessel. The basal collar has four attachment perforations opposite each other which means the attachments cannot have gone all the way through whatever it was attached to. It may have been riveted to a hollow tube to make a spout, or attached to something solid to act as a …

Late Post Medieval pierced Ottoman copper alloy 40 para coin. The piercing has a diameter of 2mm and has been machine drilled. This is most likely as a result of being used as a pendant after it had been brought back to the British Isles, probably prior to the 1970s, as a souvenier as the piercing is not correctly oriented to the script on either side. There is a custom in some parts of the Islamic world to attach coins to the apparel of brides, but the weight of of the coin makes it unlikely that was the case in this instance. The reverse of the coin carries the date ١٢٧٧ (12…
