Three military buttons all stamped with 3D in the centre (3rd Dragoons). Two are flat and one is domed. All have a repeating key pattern inside two concentric circles with empty fields between.

A button with BANK VOLUNTEERS in a buckled frame below a crown with Britannia in the centre. The loop on the back is squashed flat. The maker's name is IOHN WILLIAMS.
This button appertains to the first raising April 1798. The unit was 450 men under the command of Colonel Thomas Whitmore.

A military button of c1800. The button shows a crown above the letters BV (probably for Banbury Volunteers).
Steve Newman comments: The clear front runners for this are either the Banbury or Bicester Volunteer Infantry units. As it was found in Newbottle, which puts it closer to Banbury, that is the strongest candidate. Other finds being recorded may allow a conclusive ID to be made.
