Similar recorded examples have a I. Nutting backmark (without & Son) which indicates a manufacture date of c.1794-1802 (& Son being added in 1803, dropped again c1820 when the father died). Others have been up to 18mm and very slightly convex, open back of course and thus in line with the earlier date range of the SON.

A large Post Medieval copper-alloy possible cloak button with spirally-formed petals and alternating cells of white, blue and red enamel. Each petal is separated by a scrolling tendril. The button is domed with a central boss and has a squashed rectangular integral attachment loop on the back. This is an example of the so-called Stuart enamels.

A Post Medieval circular silver button. The button appears to be solid rather than hollow and has seven facetted insets of what appears to be clear glass or possibly crystal. Six insets frame a larger central inset. One of the surrounding insets is missing. On the back are the stubs of an attachment loop. A date in the 18th century seems probable.
