TREASURE CASE : 2011 T81.
Description:
A cast gold object of uncertain date. The object is a strip of bright yellow gold with a rectangular section that has been bent three times possibly as a result of its deposition. Both ends of the strip taper to a point and are slightly twisted.
Discussion:
There are no diagnostic features on this gold strip that could provide a date. Therefore due to the undiagnostic nature of the find it can not be securely dated to pre-1708 and as such falls outside the provisions of the Treasure Act 1996

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An incomplete, unidentified object of uncertain date. The object is formed from a single piece of igneous rock, most probably gabbro, which appears to have been at some point manipulated into a circular form, though it is now worn and broken. Numerous large quartz inclusions are present within the stone. Centrally, a circular piece of gold infilled with red enamel has been inserted into the stone. Due to the durable nature of this type of stone it is probable that the gold was purposefully inserted into its surface. There are no signs of any form of attachment.
The gold makes up less…
