An incomplete copper alloy bow brooch of the Wirral type dating to the Roman period. The object is a hinged example. The upper bow is decorated with three vertical grooves. Each groove is empty but was possibly once filled with enamel as in LVPL-98299D. Above the panels is a raised bulb, and beyond that the projection tapers to a swan head like terminus. Below the panels are two lateral cylinters with faint incised decoration. On the rear of the brooch the notched casing which would have held the axis bar to support the hinged pin is complete. A copper alloy middle Bronze Age Group II dirk with a low butt (Cats 139-5) (Burgess & Gerloff 1981, 6). The object corresponds to late Arreton to early Taunton range (1600-1350BC). This equates with a latest Early Bronze Age to early Middle Bronze Age date range and the likelihood is an Acton Park I or II currency of 1550-1400 BC. The butt end of the object is damaged and the edge eroded. The butt end measures 48.05mm in width and is 2.50mm thick. An incomplete cast copper alloy Late Iron Age to early Roman terret. The terret would have been oval when complete and the hoop is oval in cross-section. The hoop tapers in width and thickness from the bar towards the top where each side terminates with a break. The incomplete ends are rounded and appear to have broken in antiquity. The hoop measures 12mm in width and 14mm in thickness at its base and 3mm in width and 4mm in thickness at the break. The bar is narrowed and there is a collar at either side. Cast bronze triangular perforated racloir or hog-backed knife, of late Bronze Age date. The object is triangular in plan and hexagonal in cross-section. The object is thickest in the centre and tapers to a sharp cutting edge on each side. In the centre of the object is a rounded triangular perforation. This object can be dated to the Blackmoor/Ewart park phase of Bronze Age metalwork, (c.1,020-800BC). Triangular perforated knives are more common from the south-eastern region of England. Roman brooch of Colchester derivative, Polden Hill (Mackreth 2011, Part 3, Group 4.l. sub group, hinged flat wing ends type). The bow rises high from the wings and curves downwards. The wings are semi-clindrical and undecorated. The top of the bow is decorated with a plain rib and it has a dark green patina. There is a ridge running down both edges of the bow which starts below the wings and runs to the foot. There is a knob at the foot with a groove. The catchplate is complete and has a backward hook. The pin is missing.
