County: Cheshire West and Chester
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Cast copper alloy incomplete axe dating to the Bronze Age. The object is probably a narrow butted flat axe broadly dating from c.2500-2300BC. The object is sub-rectangular in cross-section. The sides of the object are curved and broaden towards the blade which is 3mm thick. The object has slight flanges to either side and there is an indication of the beginnings of a stop ridge. The butt end is worn and corroded. It probably terminates in a break however the corrosion makes this uncertain. The object has a rough mottled brownish-green patina and is highly corroded.
