Cast copper alloy 'lyre-shaped' strap end with an integral box chape and openwork terminal. The terminal comprises elaborate openwork of inverted M-shape with a lozenge-shaped terminal and side scrolls with four circular depressions on the outside edge of the frame. In the centreme is a bird (possibly an eagle). The box chape is rectangular in cross-section and has two rivet holes for attachment. The box chape has broken on the rear around the rivet holes. A shield shaped, heraldic harness stud or mount of medieval date (AD 1250-1400). The mount features the design of gules three lions passant guardant. Most of red enamel has survived with the brownish-green patina of lions. The reverse surface is rough and undecorated with an attachment shank just below centre which is circular in cross-section. Cast copper alloy socketed side-looped spearhead dating from the middle to late Bronze Age, (1500-800BC). The spearhead is almost complete. The head is leaf-shaped and the socket has a pronounced midrib. The mid rib is lozenge shape and extends to the base of the socket where it is slightly facetted rather than raised. A middle Bronze Age sidelooped spearhead dating to c. 1300-1200BC. The socketed is slightly flared at its 'open' end, and 20.33mm in diameter, (internal 14.52mm). The loops, which are flattened, are situated roughly half way along the shaft. The head is leaf shaped. The socket is a pronounced mid-rib and the edges of the wings are chamfered. The max width of the wings, and spearhead, is 42.84mm. The outer edge of the wings are 1.58mm thick. The patina is a greenish brown and there is a small amount of corrosion on the wings. A silver-gilt composite dress hook dating to the early Post-Medieval period. The object consists of a silver lozenge shaped reverse plate with a raised and separate quatrefoil riveted to the back plate by a large domed bossed rivet in the centre. A silver seal matrix dating from the 17th or early 18th century. The matrix face is oval and the conical handle has six facets. The terminal of the handle is an openwork tri-lobed suspension loop, the top loop of which is incomplete. There is a thick hexagonal double collar between the loop and the shaft. The matrix face has a beaded border and the central design is of a crown over a heart pierced by two crossed arrows. Cast copper alloy spur dating to the Post-Medieval period, (1500-1700). The spur is formed of two curved arms, the neck and box of a rowel spur. The arms form a U-shape and are D-shaped in cross section. The neck is oval in cross-section and angled upwards. The box is angled slightly downwards. Each of the terminals has a central circular apertures one of which is incomplete due to an old breaks. The arms are decorated with punched dots interspersed with three diagonal grooves. The object has a dark green patina and is in good condtion.

A copper alloy rowel from a spur of Medieval to Post-Medieval date. The rowel is in the form of a six pointed star and has a central circular perforation for attachment to the spur. The perforation has an internal diameter of 4mm. The object has a mid-green patina and shows file marks are visible. Such rowels are undiagnostic and a wide medieval to post-medieval date is therefore offered; similar examples can be found illustrated in Read (2001, 66; refs. 505-507). Dimensions: 49mm in diameter, 3mm thick, 6.7g.

Large cast copper alloy dolphin brooch dating to the Roman period. The object is a sprung example. The wings are tubular and each end terminates in a raised cap. The caps are decorated with vertical beading around the edge and each end is decorated with a transverse V-shaped groove. A cast iron horseshoe dating from the late Medieval to the Post-Medieval period. The circular horseshoe was used to give extra support at the heel for orthopaedic reasons and is not diagnostic of date. The nail holes for the shoe to be attached to the horses hoof are corroded over and can not be ascertained. The shoe is sub-oval in plan and arches slightly inwards at one end. The object is in poor condition due to corrosion.

An almost complete cast copper alloy socketed axe of Late Bronze Age date (1000 - 800 BC). The object can be classified as the Ewart Park phase of metalwork. The object is sub-rectangular in plan with the cutting edge expanding outwards to form a convex cutting edge. The cutting edge is damaged and worn which occurred both in recent and ancient times. The cutting edge measures 51.89mm in width and is 1.97mm thick. A silver artefact, roughly triangular in shape. Possibly a mount with two studs on the back for attachment to leather or textile. Central square hole, on the front curved flange near the square hole with two triangular compartments of floral decoration. Possibly a mount for a belt (?). The object is well made and the floral design may suggest an early 16th century date. The age and precious metal content of this item therefore qualify it as treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996. Dora Thornton
