One half of a cast copper alloy quillon or guard, probably from a dagger or knife probably from the early medieval period (c.AD 950-1100). The quillon is an elongated ovate shape with a curved profile and raised rim to the lower aspect. The object has a worn break at the sub-rectangular perforation which has now created a 'U' shape. The underside is grooved towards the perforation as is typical of early medieval quillons. As complete, the perforation would have served as the slot through which the blade would have slotted into the grip. The object has a light green patina. …

The pestle has a cylindrical shank that has a rounded terminal and is slightly curved. At the head of the shank is a worn edge that would have formed the base of the loop. The loop would have extended from the shank and then curved to meet the shank with a rounded tip. A fragment of lead alloy casting waste of uncertain date. The object is sub-oval in plan and is flat. One surface is smooth and worn while the opposite face has a raised ridge, possibly a casting seem. Dimensions: 30mm in length, 25mm in width, 5mm thick, 14.4g Casting waste is very hard to date in isolation. As casting waste represents re-usable metal, it was often retained and regularly turns up in founder's hoards. It can however also be found in isolation. A copper alloy rectangular buckle of medieval date. The buckle frame is oval in cross-section and undecorated. The frame has been distorted probably due to damage within the plough soil. One side of the frame is notched for the pin to rest, the pin is missing. It has a brownish green patina. Dimensions: 18mm in length, 16mm in width, 1.6g Similar examples of buckles can be found in Whitehead, (2003), p26 dated to c.1300-1500.

A copper alloy single looped buckle of medieval date. The buckle has an oval frame and an integral, forked spacer with one sheet plate remaining attached. The buckle frame is lipped however there is no notch for the pin to rest on. The pin is missing. The remaining sheet plate on the outer face of the object appears to be undecorated and has a dark black patina. An incomplete copper alloy double looped buckle of Post-Medieval date. The buckle would have been trapezoidal when complete however only one loop and the strap bar remains. The rear of the object is flat and the pin is missing. The remaining loop has a pointed expanded outer frame while either side of the strap bar is a lobed protrusion. The buckle frame is decorated with a series of stamped circles or rings. The buckle has a mid-brown patina. A copper alloy double looped buckle of Medieval to Post-Medieval date. The object is oval in plan and the frame is D-shaped in cross-section. The rear of the object is flat. The strap bar is slightly recessed and the buckle frame is undecorated. The pin is missing. The buckle has a mid-green patina however the buckle has been coated in olive oil obscuring the patina and damaging the object. Similar examples can be found in Whitehead (2003), p53. Dimensions: 30mm in length, 26mm in width, 3mm thick, 6.0g.

A medieval copper alloy rotary key. The key handle (bow) is in the shape of a flat lozenge with four circular perforations, one of which is incomplete. The upper point of the lozenge is surmounted with a, squat cylindrical terminal with two piercings in the base (one to either side of the faces of the lozenge).One of the piercings is incomplete due to ancient damage. A silver seal matrix dating from the 17th or early 18th century. The matrix face is oval and the conical handle has six facets. The terminal of the handle is an openwork tri-lobed suspension loop, the top loop of which is incomplete. There is a thick hexagonal double collar between the loop and the shaft. The matrix face has a beaded border and the central design is of a crown over a heart pierced by two crossed arrows. One of the loops is broken possibly due to recent plough damage. The loops are decorated with serrated outer edges with five groups of three ridges. The pin is missing. The object has a dark green patina and is in good condition. Similar examples can be found in Whitehead, (2003) p60 and have been dated to c.1450-1600.
