One half of a cast copper alloy quillon or guard, probably from a dagger or knife probably from the early medieval period (c.AD 950-1100). The quillon is an elongated ovate shape with a curved profile and raised rim to the lower aspect. The object has a worn break at the sub-rectangular perforation which has now created a 'U' shape. The underside is grooved towards the perforation as is typical of early medieval quillons. As complete, the perforation would have served as the slot through which the blade would have slotted into the grip. The object has a light green patina. …

An incomplete copper alloy strap end of Early Medieval date. The object is of Thomas' Class A, Type 3; anthropomorphic. The strap is tongue-shaped in plan and sub-rectangular in cross-section. The object is decorated with a moulded X with a pellet to either side. At the top of the object is another pellet before it terminates in a break. The split end for attachment is missing. The rounded terminal is worn with no visible decoration. The rear of the object is flat and undecorated. The object has a greenish brown patina. A similar example can be found in Thomas, 2003, p3 no. 5.

The shaft is circular in cross-section and measures 0.072mm in diameter. It terminates in a modern break. The head is facetted with 10 faces. Each face is decorated with a punched ring-and-dot motif. The top of the head is lozenge shaped and undecorated. The object has a brownish green patina and is in good condition. The remains of gilding can be seen. Silver hooked tag with central panel decorated with a Trewhiddle-style animal. Description: Hooked tag with a basically drop-shaped plate, with rounded projections at the upper corners, each perforated with a circular sewing hole. Description: Silver strap-end of Thomas's Class A, type 1, originally decorated in Trewhiddle style, but later re-worked to depict a human figure, perhaps imitating a 'Heiligenfibel' or 'Saint' brooch. The original strap-end is extremely well made. It has a split attachment end, although the two halves are now pressed closely together with no gap in between and indeed appear never to have been apart. Incomplete cast copper alloy strap union dating to the Medieval period, (1100-1500). The piece is asymmetrical with a moulding along the central shaft nearer one eyelet than the other. It is D-shaped in cross-section. There are three lobes around the complete eyelet suggesting a cross design. The other eyelet is incomplete. The reverse of the object is flat with a slight depression at the reverse of the moulding. The object has a dark brown patina. A similar example on the database is NMGW-A7BF76. Similar examples can be found on p.62, Read, (2001).
