Treasure Case: 2016 T1015 Description and discussion: A medieval silver-gilt plaque depicting the Agnus Dei. The plaque is rectangular with a plain border around all four edges. In the centre is the Agnus Dei, facing right and supporting a cross. Short incised lines have been used for texture on the lamb's coat and the background is cross-hatched. The plaque is fragmentary. There is a small loss to the area left of the lamb's head which measures 7.8mm. Description: The object is a strip of silver with a pattern of what appear to be stamped lines on one side, cut at both ends and bent. There are no visible test marks, and no trace of solder or other fastening. Dimensions: 8mm wide, and 1mm thick. Weight 4.52g Discussion: The object has some similarities with so-called broad-band arm-rings of the late 9th and 10th centuries, produced in Viking contexts around the Irish Sea. Two non-joining fragments of an unidentified cast silver artefact. The fragments are rectangular and curved in form with a wedge-shaped cross-section. Both fragments are broken at each end. The concave inner faces are plain and the convex outer faces are decorated with Trewhiddle style ornament. Fragment 1 (left side of image) shows a crouching beast inside an arched panel or arcade, its head looking backwards and biting its own tail, which laces up from beneath its body. A rectangular piece of sheet silver of unknown date and function. The object is undecorated. Nine small holes perforate the outer edge of the object possibly for attachment. The size of the perforations, 0.78mm in diameter, indicate it may have been threaded onto an item of clothing. The object does not qualify as treasure under the 1996 Treasure Act due to being undiagnostic.

A small medieval piece of sheet metal, rectangular in shape, terminating at one end in a point. The centre of the pointed end has an aperture punched through it. Around the edges there is a border of tooled decoration of roughly zigzag formation. The reverse is undecorated. The object is silver and dates from the fifteenth century. Dimensions: length 16 mm, width 8 mm. Consequently, in terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.

Silver artefact comprising a bar with three thistle heads spaced at even intervals. The purpose of this object is unclear. Something may have been attached to the bar between the thistle ornaments and turned around it. Given that we are unaware of its function, it is very difficult to date. So possibly later than 1710. As the find cannot be securely dated to pre-1710 it falls outside the provisions of the Treasure Act 1996.
