Cast lead object of uncertain date and function. The object is sub-oval in plan and in cross-section. There is a slight groove running around each side of the object. The surface of one face of the object curves round to almost touch the opposite face leaving a space between. This also occurs at the opposite end of the object from the opposite face. The surfaces are uneven and undecorated. The object has a white patina.

Cast lead object of uncertain date and function. The object is an irregular pointed oval in plan and sub-rectangular in cross-section. A deep groove runs around the side of the object and the two faces appear to have been pressed inwards slightly. On one surface there are two stamped triangular depressions. The surface of the object is pitted and uneven. It has a brownish-white patina.

An lead alloy object of uncertain function. The object is circular in plan and is D-shaped in cross-section. The flat face is rough and uneven with no visible pitting.
Due to its undiagnostic nature it cannot be dated closely however the condition of the lead suggests a Post-Medieval date is likely.
The object may have functioned as a palm guard however there are no diagnostic features. Palm guards were for use by a leather worker to protect the palm whilst stitching. Bailey (1995, 64-65) dates such objects to the 17th century onwards.

Lead fragment, possibly dating to the Medieval or Post-Medieval period, of uncertain function. It is irregular in plan and slightly curved in profile. The base of the fragment is decorated with a deep groove which is decorated with three moulded pellets interspersed with four moulded dashes. Above the groove is a rectangular vertical strip. The reverse of the object is undecorated. At the base is a horizontal strip of lead which projects outwards and is probably the remains of a base. It has a yellowish brown patina and is in poor condition.

A cast lead alloy ammonite of Post-Medieval to Modern date. The object is sub-circular in plan and uniface. The curled body of the ammonite decorates the outer face while the rear of the object is flat but pitted. The object has a dark cream patina and is in fair condition. It may have been cast from a fossil and would have been relatively easy to make.
The coat of arms of Whitby Abbey shows three curled snakes, previously represented as ammonites. Taking the location of the find spot into account in the parish of Whitby this may represent a pilgrim's souvenir or a more modern tour…

The object then tapers win thickness towards the other end which is 2.02mm thick and wedge-shaped. One face of the object has five uneven deep vertical grooves in the central section. A lead alloy object of uncertain date and function. The object consists of four conjoined oval projections each with a raised central pellet. The outer edges of the object are undulating and the rear is uneven and irregular. The object appears to be an unfinished peace where the edges have not been filed down and the ovals left un-separated (if they were intended to be separated) however its function is unknown.
Another possibility is that it a cast jet with the runners removed and therefore is casting waste. The object has a smooth mid-white patina.

An fragment of an unidentified object possibly dating from the Roman through to the Medieval period. The fragment consists of lead which has been chip-carved and gilded on the upper face. The decoration consists of a large C-shaped swirl within which is a smaller crescent shaped swirl. This pattern is repeated with the upper decoration mirroring the lower so that the crescent shape turns the opposite way. Each edge of the object is broken. A cast lead alloy object of unceratin function and date. The object is sub-circular in plan and oval in cross-section. At the top of the object is a central projection which is oval in cross-section. The projection is incomplete and possibly would have formed an attachment loop. Projecting from either side of the possible incomplete loop are two curved pointed triangular projections (four in total). The projections curve towards the central attachment. An incomplete lead alloy object of uncertain function. The object is semi-circular in plan and is flat. Each face is undecorated, rough and pitted. Due to its undiagnostic nature it can not be dated closely however the condition of the lead suggests a Medieval to Post-Medieval date is likely.
The object may have functioned as a plam guard however these tend to be D-shaped in cross-section allowing them to sit comfortably in the hand. Palm guards were for use by a leather worker to protect the palm whilst stitching. Bailey (1995, 64-65) dates such objects to the 17th century onwards…

The object may have functioned as a gaming piece or weight, however due to its un-diagnostic nature this cannot be certain. Alternatively it may have been formed as casting waste. The light cream patina is suggestive of an early date however objects such as this were in use from the Roman through to the Post-Medieval period.

An incomplete lead alloy impression of a coin. The impression in the object is of a penny of George III, (1760-1820). The legend reads GEORBIUS III D G REX; surrounding the laureate bust of the king facing right. The reverse of the object is undecorated. The object has a raised rim.
The object has been bent and the edges damaged probably due to the plough. It has a dark brown patina beneath which is a dark grey surface where it has been damaged.

In the centre of the object there is a circular very slight depression measuring 10mm in diameter. This depression is mid-grey in colour.

The object may have functioned as a Post-Medieval cloth seal which were often rectangular; however although the upper edge is incomplete, there is no evidence of attachment. Another possibility is that it was metal working debris used as a practice piece.

A cast lead alloy object of uncertain function dating to the Post-Medieval period. The object is shield shaped in plan. On one face of the object is an impression of an imperial orb surmounted by a cross, within an ornamental tressure that has three arches. The rear of the object is decorated with cross-hatching.
The imperial orb is of the type usually found on copper Rose/Orb jettons of Hans Krauwinckel II. These jettons can be dated from AD1586-1635. It has a dark grey patina.
