A piece of gold probable casting waste of uncertain date. The object is irregular in plan and consists of a thin sheet of gold. The object is ridged with a curving pattern which is likely to have occurred when the liquid gold flowed onto an uneven surface and solidified. The gold does not appear to be purpose made with a deliberate pattern. The rear of the object has a dull gold colour and has the appearance of being pressed. The outer face is a brighter gold. The edges of the object are thin and sharp, and have been folded over in places. Due to the undiagnostic nature of this fi…

A cast copper alloy object of uncertain date and function. The object is sub-rectangular in plan and flat. The object curves in profile at one point however it is unclear whether this is due to damage or by design. The rectangular end of the object which measures 31.48mm in width contains four incomplete rivets in-situ. Two of these are at the outer corners and measure 3.12mm in diameter, and a further two 3mm beneath these measuring 3.95mm in diameter. An incised border can be seen on one edge at this end of the object. The object then flares outwards, measuring 36.77mm in width, bef…

A cast lead alloy unidentified object of uncertain date. The object is circular in plan and conical. There is no decoration on any face of the object. The edges are smooth and rounded. The object may have functioned as a gaming piece or weight, however due to its un-diagnostic nature this cannot be certain. Alternatively it may have been formed as casting waste. The light cream patina is suggestive of an early date however objects such as this were in use from the Roman through to the Post-Medieval period.

A lead alloy object of uncertain date and function. The object has an oval bowl or bag like base and is D-shaped in cross-section. The object is flattned at the back with several scratches and nicks on the surface. It tapers towards the top where it terminates with an oval opening or neck. The object has a mid-brown patina. It was suggested due to a similar form that the object could be an ampulla however the lack of decoration, handles and the shape of the 'bowl' make this unlikely. Another possibility based on the angle of the object is a lead alloy covering for a foot of a large…

Silver artefact comprising a bar with three thistle heads spaced at even intervals. The purpose of this object is unclear. Something may have been attached to the bar between the thistle ornaments and turned around it. Given that we are unaware of its function, it is very difficult to date. So possibly later than 1710. As the find cannot be securely dated to pre-1710 it falls outside the provisions of the Treasure Act 1996.
