A piece of copper-alloy morphologically similar to the shape of a flat axehead, possibly casting waste from a manufacturing process. The object is roughly pear shaped in silhouette, with a rough texture that appears to be partly from corrosion and partly from the natural grain of the metal.

A copper alloy object of uncertain date and function. The object is U-shaped in plan with zoomorphic duck or bird terminals. Extending down from the centre of the object is a circular-sectioned shaft, measuring 3mm thick, which appears to be hollow and is soil filled. The birds are each identical with open mouths and rounded beaks and circular annulet eyes. At the top of each head is an undulating raised ridge. The back of the bird's heads appears to have once joined each other at this ridge. Surrounding the eyes the surface is stained red, this may possibly be the remains of degraded…

A copper alloy object of uncertain date and function. The object consists of a long arm which is oval in cross-section. At one end the arm tapers in width to form an integral pointed oval terminal. The terminal is sub-triangular in cross-section with one flat face. At the opposite end of the object is a bifurcated terminal which is incomplete. The purpose of each terminal is unclear. Projecting from the centre of the object is a sub-rectangular tab, one end of which tapers in width and curls inwards on itself. One end of this may be incomplete however it is difficult to be certain.…

A copper alloy object of uncertain date and function. The object is square in plan with a flat rear and a slightly convex outer face. In the centre of the object is a large square perforation measuring 22mm in length and width. Each face of the object is worn with a patchy mid-green patina. There is no visible decoration. Dimensions: 72mm in length, 72mm in width, 3.5mm thick, 158.7g. The exact function and date of this object is uncertain however the condition and patina suggest it may date to the medieval or post-medieval period. A possible function may be as a nut or washer f…

An incomplete lead alloy object of uncertain function. The object is semi-circular in plan and is flat. On one face two circumferential ridges border the object. The opposite face is rough and pitted with two conjoined large circular depressions which measure 14mm in diameter. Due to its undiagnostic nature it cannot be dated closely however the condition of the lead suggests a Medieval to Post-Medieval date is likely. The object may have functioned as a palm guard however these tend to be D-shaped in cross-section allowing them to sit comfortably in the hand. Palm guards were f…

A fragment of a zoomorphic object of uncertain date and function. The object has a sub-triangular body which is sub-rectangular in cross-section. The body of the object divides at the top terminating with two rounded projections or ears. The ears are concave on the outer face of the object and convex at the rear. Between the ears on the 'head' of the object is a projecting snout which is lozenge shaped in cross-section. The snout is almost complete however any surface detail has been lost with the patina, probably due to abrasion from within the plough soil. The lower part of this face…

A lead alloy object of uncertain type and function. The object is conical with a flat hollow base and rounded top. The object appears to be anthropomorphic in style however is crudely made and it is therefore uncertain if this is a deliberate style or not. Either side of the 'head' are two semi-circular lugs or 'ears'. In the centre of one face of the object is a long pointed triangular projection which may form a possible nose. Either side of this is a single circular pit which may represent eyes however they are uneven with the right (viewed facing) 'eye' being higher than that on t…

A copper alloy 'onion-shaped' knop of uncertain date. The object is oval in plan with a flattened top in the centre of which is a circular scar measuring 3mm in diameter. From the flattened top the object tapers in width towards the base which has a flat circular projection which appears to be incomplete and may have broken away from a larger object such as a brooch. This measures 3mm in diameter. The object is decorated with c.22 moulded ridges which run down the body of the object. The remains of gilding are visible between the ridges. The object has a mid-green patina. The funct…

A lead alloy object of uncertain date and function. The object has an oval bowl or bag like base and is D-shaped in cross-section. The object is flattned at the back with several scratches and nicks on the surface. It tapers towards the top where it terminates with an oval opening or neck. The object has a mid-brown patina. It was suggested due to a similar form that the object could be an ampulla however the lack of decoration, handles and the shape of the 'bowl' make this unlikely. Another possibility based on the angle of the object is a lead alloy covering for a foot of a large…

A copper alloy object of uncertain date and function. The object consists of a central solid rod with striations on its outer surface. Wrapped around the central rod is an indistinct rounded piece of copper alloy which may be zoomorphic in nature or perhaps in the form of hands clasping the rod. Examined from one angle the clasping copper alloy appears to be a pig, and a frog from another angle while from the front of the object it appears to be clasped hands. The uncertainty of the decoration and incomplete nature of the object makes it difficult to identify correctly and date. Th…

A lead alloy object of uncertain date and function. The object has a flat base, bulbous body and long tubular neck. At the top of the neck the object flattens out forming a rim. The mouth of the object has been damaged. A circular hole runs through the length of the object and its use as a vessel would therefore be impractical. The hole measures 4.5mm in width. Above the base of the object the lower body is decorated with two transverse rows of grooves in the form of rope-work. Possible functions for the object may be as a votive offering representing a vessel, or a toy. The light …

A lead alloy object of uncertain date and function. The object consists of four conjoined oval projections each with a raised central pellet. The outer edges of the object are undulating and the rear is uneven and irregular. The object appears to be an unfinished peace where the edges have not been filed down and the ovals left un-separated (if they were intended to be separated) however its function is unknown. Another possibility is that it a cast jet with the runners removed and therefore is casting waste. The object has a smooth mid-white patina. Dimensions: 54mm in len…

A lead alloy object of uncertain function and date. The object is D-shaped in plan and is rectangular in cross-section. One face of the object appears to show a moulded representation of a stag's head facing left. However the stag is not well defined and may have occurred by chance due to wear and corrosion as opposed to being an intentional motif. The rear of the object is undecorated. The object has a mid-greyish brown patina and is in poor condition. Dimensions: 20.93mm in length, 27.15mm in width, 5.58mm thick, 9.6g.
