The upper face is decorated with a moulded star with eight points resulting in a series of triangular cells. The rear of the object is flat and undecorated. The object has a light brownish white patina and is in good condition. Similar examples of spindle whorls have been found in contexts of Roman through to Post-Medieval date. The majority however appear are dated to the Medieval period.

The object is hexagonal in plan with each corner marked by a large raised triangular shaped pellet on each face and is bi-conical. These pellets are coinjoined forming six lozenge shapes at the edge of the object.
